Let’s get something out of the way: Old Boy is one of the most revered films, ever. It definitely errs on the cult side (it being a foreign film and all), but I’ve yet to meet somebody who’s seen it who won’t vouch for both its greatness and its warped nature.
Spike Lee’s remake is already facing an uphill battle. But, from the looks of the casting – Josh Brolin should fit the protagonist’s roll perfectly; Samuel L. Jackson needs no trumpeting; and the laws of being a nerdy fanboy dictate that I give anything with District 9‘s Sharlto Copley a try – and now this, the movie’s latest teaser, he’s going to do right by fans of the original film (and manga). The tension mounts throughout the minute-plus clip, leaving the viewers with a very distraught – but somewhat determined – head shot of Josh Brolin, most likely thinking of the amount of ass begging to be kicked.
Keep your eyes peeled for further developments, but this should be an event when it drops, November 27th.
