All hell broke loose at New York’s infamous Rikers Island prison on August 5th when 50 inmates reportedly began rioting for damn near an hour over a grilled cheese sandwich, which I’m guessing must be like filet mignon in prison.

According to a jail insider, the bloody brawl was allegedly triggered when members of a Dominican gang called the Trinitarians were pissed at rival Crips for not letting them use a hot plate to cook their grilled cheese sandwich.

In the 2:34 video footage obtained by ABC7, inmates are shown randomly tossing chairs, garbage cans and beating each other with mop sticks, while correctional officers attempt to break up the melee before standing down.

After all was said and done, one officer and 11 inmates were reported as injured, including a number who sustained serious stab wounds. 32 inmates were also disciplined, some criminally.
