Ron Jaworski wouldn’t touch Johnny Manziel with a ten foot pole

It’s been a good four months since Ron Jaworski said something crazy, and with draft day quickly approaching we knew he couldn’t last forever without inserting himself into a national Quarterback conversation.

He was talking to Mike Missanelli on 97.5 the Fan in Philly when they asked him about Johnny Footbaw, and where he might fit on Jaws’ big board.

Manziel may fall. I’m not crazy about him, to be honest with you. I’ve only looked at five games. I wouldn’t take him in the first three rounds.

That is a strong take Jaws. Ron Jaworski honestly believes that Houston and Jacksonville will both pass him up THREE TIMES before someone finally takes him on Saturday. Jacksonville is a great football city that has been figuratively waterboarded by Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne for the past two years. Their population is on the verge of rioting on its good days at this point, so I would hate to see it try to survive two consecutive nights of passing on Manziel.

The cynical part of me thinks that this might just be a publicity thing for Jaws to keep his name in the news since he’s never been one to shy away from a controversial QB opinion. You might remember some of his other greatest hits including:

In fairness to ol’ Ron, he might have been talking in the context of the Eagles draft strategy, and drafting a QB might not make sense when you’ve got Nick Foles coming off a great season. Not for nothing but Jaws looked a whole lot like Nick Foles when he was younger-

But even if Manziel were available in the third round because every other GM got carbon monoxide poisoning and Vikingsed away their picks, wouldn’t the Eagles be able to take the guy and instantly flip him for a first rounder? Maybe you don’t want a guy like Johnny Football in your green room on draft day though, partying it up with coeds, walking around with a sense of entitlement and sleeping in, distracting Chip Kelly from finding a value WR who’s less likely to rack up 15 yard slur penalties than Riley Cooper.

Jaws also admits that he’s only seen Manziel play five times, but even that should be enough to realize that he’s probably not going to slide into the 4th. Keep doing you though Jaws, at least you’re not Merril Hoge.
