Given this idea becomes a reality, kudos to The Diesel himself, Shaquille O’Neal, for making lives a tad easier for the folks of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

While being inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, Shaq announced that he plans to open up a children’s hospital that would be free for families unable to pay for care.

“I wasn’t supposed to announce this, but I’m going to do it anyway,” said O’Neal.

“I had a talk with the powers that be in Baton Rouge, and my plan is to build a Shaquille O’Neal children’s hospital. That’s my plan, so that right now is in the works, and hopefully it gets done.

“All sick children can come for free. That’s my vision.”

Knowing how many families such an establishment could potentially help – and seeing as how Louisiana has cut more than $260M in hospital funding in the last handful of years – here’s a prayer from yours truly we’ll soon see a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Shaquille O’Neal Children’s Hospital in two years or so. And if Shaq can turn Boogie Cousins into the best big man in basketball like he says he can, well, he’s already got one vote for Philanthropist Of The Year.
