Sorry Lovie, this was the photo in the archives.
That didn’t take long for our Crappy New Year’s prediction to come true.
According to Jay Glazer at Fox Sports, Lovie Smith is slated to become the next head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Glazer reports that Tampa Bay decided on Smith because, “Lovie is a grown up, no drama guy who will bring old Bucs tradition back.” Old traditions that probably include cleaning the showers from time to time, treating their players with respect and not being a dick to local disadvantaged kids watching practice with a Bucs Super Bowl hero. Smith previously had been Tampa Bay’s linebackers coach from 1996 to 2000, then serving as the Rams defensive coordinator for two years before becoming the head coach of the Chicago Bears in 2004.
Lovie had also met with Texans in December about possibly taking the reins in Houston, a position that was ultimately given to Penn State’s Bill O’Brien.
