Antonio Cromartie Says Players Are Going To Just Use Marijuana Anyway

In an interview with This Is 50 before the Super Bowl, Antonio Cromartie said what most have us have been saying for some time and the National Football League has yet to condone, smoking marijuana. When asked if the NFL should allow for players to use marijuana, Cromartie answered:

“They need to just let it go. We’re just going to do it anyway. They just need to let it go. They need to go ahead and say, ‘Ya’ll go ahead, smoke it, do what you need to do.'”

It plays for a laugh, but the answer, “We’re just going to do it anyway” is telling. Marijuana is fully legal in two states, decriminalized and allowable for medical reasons — say pain incurred while playing football — in eight more states and medically allowable in six more. That’s not an insignificant number of places, especially when looking that the states with legal marijuana laws are two of the country’s most populous states once New York rolls out its program later this year.

Lord Rog himself played it for a laugh during the annual state of the league address on Friday, stating “I am randomly tested and I’m happy to say that I am clean.”  But he also went on to say, “I’m not a medical expert. We will obviously follow signs. We will follow medicine and if they determine this could be a proper usage in any context, we will consider that. Our medical experts are not saying that right now.”

“Our medical experts” would be a phrase one would think Goodell would stay away from, what the lawsuits over concussions and the use of Toradol.

The entire Cromartie interview is worth your time, especially his reaction to the question if Richard Sherman should be considered a thug, and what is a thug anyway. Is Justin Bieber a thug?

“They say Justin Bieber is a confused and misunderstood youth.”
