Aloe Blacc – “Loving You Is Killing Me” Video

The hyper-minimalist white backdrop thrusts Aloe Blacc firmly into the forefront in “Loving You Is Killing Me”, leaving him no chance to avoid the spotlight. But, rising to the pressure, the man kills it. Showing off the charisma and skill that’s characterized his live performances in the past, Aloe Blacc controls the moment like only a true star can. He vibes with the thumping backbeat and swelling horns, comfortable in his skin, demanding the attention of the viewer. His pint-sized counterpart is no slouch either, and the interplay between the two is wonderfully natural.

It’s incredible, to me, that Aloe Blacc is releasing this video. Not too long ago, Aloe was here, a young emcee struggling on the come up, one-half of underground rap group Emanon. If you choose to click on the video, you can see just a small inkling of the performer that appears above. And hell, just look at the quality of the footage itself. He’s come a long way in just a few short years. It’s a maturation. Now, the man’s the proud creator of an excellent LP, a rising star with a bright future ahead of him.

It’s always amazing how people grow and evolve over time. We all walk unique paths in life, and grow, bubble and shift without conscious thought. The changes are extensive, but subtle, floating in the dark recesses of the mind until bam; they come crashing to the forefront like a sudden, shocking beam of light. I wonder if Aloe Blacc’s experienced that yet. It’s a hell of a journey from the young man rapping his heart out to the confident, strong showman from “Loving You Is Killing Me.”
