In a storyline more suited for a straight to video movie than reality TV, Gai Scott, the nephew of Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta star and former publisher “of The Source, once a widely read and influential hip-hop magazine (shade provided by The Boston Globe).” Scott, age 36, has now pleaded not guilty in the shooting of his uncle.

In an odd turn of events, Scott’s lawyer, Jon Ciraulo, entered the plea Monday in Plymouth District Court and stated that “[w]hen the dust settles, this case will be shown to be self-defense.” Benzino’s attorney Martin K. Leppo responded to the self-defense plea by saying, “Gai Scott shooting six shots into Benzino’s car and then chasing him down the highway doesn’t sound like self-defense to me.”

While the source of the tension hasn’t been identified, the shooting has been reportedly linked to family issues over the management of Bezino’s mother’s land. “My client and his family, including Maureen [Scott] vehemently deny any accusations that Benzino is making,” said Cirulo. “I would suggest that he [the uncle] has an agenda in utilizing and self-promoting at this time.”

Unless Gai Scott’s lawyer conjures up the ghost of Matlock, he’s going to have a tough time proving that his client was acting in self defense, but this is America, and Mr. Scott will have his day in court to try to prove his innocence. Until then, he remains in custody pending a dangerousness hearing requested by the Plymouth District Attorney, and Zino Grigio has been discharged from the hospital and is free to take as many selfies as he wants.
