Former Ravens Whipping Boy Cam Cameron Interviewing With New York Jets

Well, that didn’t take long. ESPN is reporting former Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron is interviewing for the open OC position with the New York Jets today. If you recall, Cameron was fired by the Ravens after losing to the Redskins and Steelers in the midst of a three game losing streak in Week 14 (so the Week 15 loss to the Broncos was totally not his fault). In an interesting twist, Cameron could be replacing former Jets OC Tony Sparano, the same coach who replaced Cameron when Sparano took over as head coach of the Miami Dolphins in 2008. After posting a 1-15 record with the Dolphins and an immediate dismissal, Cameron joined the Ravens as the offensive coordinator in 2008 where he worked one season with defensive coordinator Rex Ryan before Ryan left for the New York Jets.

Cameron has a reputation for being good with young quarterbacks, he’s crediting for developing a young Philip Rivers and elite quarterback Joe Flacco, but he also is known for rather curious — some would say boneheaded — play calling, say, going for it long when it’s 3 and 2 and forgetting Ray Rice was even on the roster.
