James Harrison Joined A Dodgeball League – Everybody Get Down!

On the verge of turning 35 in three months and his skills on the decline, Steelers linebacker James Harrison had been pegged as a likely casualty of Pittsburgh’s impending salary cap purge in free agency, given that the 2008 Defensive Player of the Year is due $6.5 million for the 2013 season, is coming off back-to-back injury-plagued years, and has said that he is unwilling to take a pay cut.

Yesterday, the player either known as Silverback or Deebo (depending on which nickname you prefer) went on Twitter with a startling announcement.

Oh snap! Who is it? He didn’t sign with the Browns, did he?

No, Harrison is still with the Steelers, at least for the time being. He was just trolling Pittsburgh fans. Who doesn’t like doing that? He followed that up tweet with a link to a Facebook page announcing that he is playing in a dodgeball league with a team called the Ball Busters.

Before Goodell brought the banhammer down on the Saints for Bountygate, Harrison had been the commissioner’s arch nemesis when it came to enforcing seemingly arbitrary new safety rules. Perhaps Harrison’s career in the NFL is coming to an end. If so, he’s off to find another sport where he can still target the head.
