After a recent Team USA Basketball training session, Kyrie Irving challenged Kobe Bryant to a game of one-on-one for a $50K donation to charity and the conversation was an interesting one. At only 20, Kyrie’s obviously the grasshopper here and viewing Kobe as “the old guy” seems odd now, but who would win? After hearing reports (and seeing video) of Kyrie cooking in the Vegas practices, could he potentially knock Kobe off mano-a-mano?
As for the verbal exchange, Kobe simply reminded Kyrie that he plays for Dan Gilbert’s Cavs. Game, set, match. There’s not much of a rebuttal for that.
Bonus: Kobe’s response to Jordan who said he laughed at Kobe’s comment that this 2012 team could beat the ’92 squad was respectful, but not exactly bitch-made either. “So what, he knows I’m a bad motherf*cker. I’m not really tripping. The fact is, they have Ewing and Robinson and those big guys, it’s tough. If you’re asking me, ‘Can you beat them one game?’ Hell yeah, we can beat them in one game. You didn’t ask me if we could beat them in a 7-game series. In one game, we can beat them. No question about it.”
If nothing else, you have to give credit to Kobe for not backing down in the face of Mike.
